The plot is being generated in the session. I also have the GetChart.aspx and GetChart.aspx.cs files in correct locations. Also the license file seems fine.

Please help me in solving this problem.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Hi Amol,

Do you get the same error running the web demo project included with TeeChart for .NET v2? You can find this project at C:\Program Files\Steema Software\TeeChart for .NET v2\TeeChartForNET.

Dear Narcis,

I do not get the same error in the sample or the demo. Also, I have developed applications in ASP.NET 1.1 and Visual Studio 2003 using TeeChart and those work great.

However, I migrated my project from .NET 1.1 to .NET 2.0 and started using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express for the development. Then I deployed this new application on a server having IIS. The TeeChart modules stopped working after that.

Please suggest a solution.

Thanks.

Amol

TeeChart Problem with ASP.NET 2.0

Post by Amol » Tue Aug 22, 2006 9:52 pm

Hello Narcis,

I am in the middle of a very urgent task and so I decided to create a new project and try that on the website.

After creating, compiling and executin my new project, I tested it on the localhost and on the Local Area Network. Everything worked fine.

As soon as I updated the code on the website, I started getting the followin error message on every TeeChart module:

Server Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

To view the error, I included the specified code in my Web.config file. The code I added was:

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Now, on every TeeChart module, I started getting the following error message in the address bar:

http://www. name>/<file name>.aspx

The page you tried to access does not exist on this server.

However, all the other pages in the same directory as the TeeChart containing pages are, work absolutely great!

Is there some issues of TeeChart Webcharts with ASP.NET 2.0 or Visual Webdeveloper 2005 Express?

Please suggest a solution.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Amol

Hello Amol,

TeeChart has been tested successfully in Web Developer Express so we should be able to find a solution to the problem.

The message seems to indicate that this might be a license issue. Please check that the Licenses.Licx is part of the project, that it is included as an embedded resource. As a double check removing Licenses.licx should cause an error compiling your project if the license is setup correctly in your machine.

Attempt to access the method failed.

Dear Marc,

Thanks for your response. I tried removing the license.licx file as per your suggestion. Then I did "Build Web Site". The build was successful. However, when I executed the code, I did not see any webchart on the webpage (as it might not have found any license).

Then I uploaded this project onto my remote server along with the license.licx file. I got the following error message:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Hello Amol,

If your project compiled without a problem without the Licenses.Licx file then it would seem that the license on the Developer machine is not correctly installed. You need to check that you are using the latest version of TeeChart and that there is no reference in the project to a different version (ie. via GAC). You could use the TeeRegister utility from the Customer Download page to correctly setup the design time license in your machine.

Registration of license file

Post by Amol » Thu Aug 24, 2006 3:13 pm

Dear Marc,

As suggested by you, I registered TeeChart using the registration utility but still I do not get any error message during compilation of the project without the license file.

I have been developing applications using TeeChart for .NET in .NET 1.1 using Visual Studio 2003. I recently upgraded my project from .NET 1.1 to .NET 2.0 and started the development of the project using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express. Now I have two versions running currently, the released version in .NET 1.1 and the test version in 2.0. The .NET 1.1 site works great. But the 2.0 test version just crashes all the time we try to access a page containing TeeChart. The crash everytime occurs on the line defining the webchart for example:

<tchart:WebChart ID="WebChart1" runat="server" AutoPostback="False" GetChartFile="GetChart.aspx"
TempChart="Session" />

Whenever this line is encountered in the .aspx webpage, the application just crashes saying:

Attempt to access the method failed.

The stack trace shows some licensemanager issue or method.

I hope that this information helps you in understanding the problem better and you may suggest some more options.

Best regards,

Amol

Hello Amol,

Please send us a sample project that reproduces the issue and we'll take a look to see if there is any underlying configuration issue.

You could leave the project at the attachments newsgroup:
news://www.steema.net/steema.public.attachments

Just to confirm that I have understood correctly:
- Using TeeChart for .NET v2 compiled in an ASP.NET application with VSNET2003 (framework 1.1) you are able to deploy your application successfully.
- Migrating the above application to Framework v2 using Web Developer Express 2005, your application does not deploy successfully.

If the above is correct, when you are using Framework v2 are you changing to the version of TeeChart built with framework v2? (ie. the version installed with TeeChartNET2VSNET2005.exe). What is the build number of the TeeChart version you are using?

With thanks.

Hello Amol,

A further thought on this. If you have migrated from v1 to v2 TeeChart or moved the TeeChart location then please check that the Windows AssemblyFolders registration entry is pointing to the location of the TeeChart version you are using:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\AssemblyFolders]
Alternatively remove the TeeChart entry from this registry location to manage TeeChart references on a project by project basis.

Hello Amol,

The test project you posted works correctly when tested here. It will run on a machine with no designtime license installed.

The problem you have encountered may be the deployment of the project.

To run your project we:
- setup a new server virtual share in IIS
- Opening 'Properties' for the share:
- we gave it an application name
- gave it 'script' run rights in 'execution permissions'
- went to the 'ASP.NET' tab and set the Framework version for the share to v2.0xxx
- opened a browser and ran settingthe url to the share foldername.

Please check those steps in your deployment machine.

Dear Marc,

Thanks for your response. I think I need your help in deciding a hosting company that supports .NET 2.0 and TeeChart.

Thanks and looking forward to your suggestions.

Marc,

I am writing about the same problem. We have been able to run on our machines, the problem that we are talking about happens on remote commercial servers. On a remote server we dont get to control all those options typically.

Typically we get these kinds of errors on a remote host

a) registration error at the <@Register> statement.
b) method access error at tchart/webchart element.

May be you can host it on a remote server which supports .NET2.0 and see if it works fine for you.

Thanks
Amarsh

Hello Amarsh,

Configuration flexibility will depend on each different service provider, a test with one may not reflect the status at another. The key to the issue in this thread has been, I think, that the virtual share properties ASP.NET version can be set to framework v1.1 or v2.0 and that if the service provider offers both then you need access to the properties window to be able to select v2.0.

With respect to any specific errors you may come across, perhaps you can send us a link to a test site for us to be able to collect more debug information.

With thanks.
