3D Elevation Scaling

Hi All,
I'm a new user using v8 to display topographical data in 3D. I'd like the user to be able to rescale the elevation axis, but I cannot discover how to achieve this.
I don't mean change the numeric scale on the axis, I mean change the visual scale i.e., the number of pixels used to represent say 100m of scale or whatever. If I have X and Y coords ranging 2-3km, but Z only ranging a few metres, the topography will be all but invisible if the scales are proportionate, or horribly distorted if the (visual) vertical scale cannot be changed.
I like the user to be able to choose a happy medium.
Thanks!
