slow line series adding process

In my VB6 application the program run to a branch, where 3080 line series have to be added to two charts each. While the adding process is fast with the first series, it terribly slows down after c. 2000. After 2500 it even takes about a second or even more to add a series to the charts, and it gets slower and slower. Is this normal, or did I do a mistake? Is it possible to speed it up?
