Use of marks tool??

I have a graph that shows a waterfall plot N Z planes deep. To this at design time I have added the marks tool, show X and Y values. But at run time I cannot get any marks indicators when running the mouse across the data shown in the plot. What am I doing wrong as when I apply the marks tool to some of the examples provided this works fine.

To get the effect of Z plane operation if i change the Z plane for series(0)-----series(n) e.g. series(0) = Z plane 0 and series(n) = Z plane N, can I get the marks tool to jump across the pseudo Z plane by enabling/ disabling the marks tool ( associating the tool with a different series) for each series so creating the effect. I am trying to get the cursor to read the X and Y values of the data in each Z Plane.
